What is the EAL Academy?
A team of consultants, trainers and serving teachers with a breadth of experience gained both in the UK and internationally in the fields of literacy, ethnic minority achievement, and English as an additional language.
What do they do?
We work with teachers, schools, academy trusts and local authorities to help pupils and students achieve and enable schools to flourish.
How does the partnership work?
All of our Better Bilingual consultants are recognised EAL Academy associates. See them in the team here
One way in which we can work with you is to acknowledge and celebrate your EAL successes through the EAL Quality Mark – further information below.
Celebrate your achievements!
The EAL Quality Mark is an award made to schools on their achievements in meeting the needs of
pupils learning English as an additional language.
The process is one of self-evaluation, with validation by The EAL Academy.
Any school with pupils on roll who are learning English as an additional language is eligible to apply.
Schools will examine their practice in three key areas:
1. Leadership and management
2. Teaching, learning and assessment
3. Working with parents and the community
Apart from the obvious benefit of knowing you’ve done well, this process will further benefit schools by enabling them to record evidence of their success, expertise and skills in meeting the needs of EAL learners, and identify areas for further development through the school improvement process.
The Quality Mark is available as a bronze, silver or gold award, allowing schools the opportunity to
re-visit the award and build on their practice over a period of time.
Schools will emerge from this process with clear targets, plans for further improvements, and a great
reason to celebrate!
The process is one of self-evaluation with step by step guidance and final validation by the EAL
