We created the EAL Pupil Profile to share with staff key information about our newly arrived students to support staff to prepare for the new student in lessons and support with planning appropriate, adapted lessons.
Page 1 of the EAL Pupil Profile communicates to staff a bit of background knowledge on the student, it communicates important information about family background for staff if they need to contact home. It also provides an opportunity for the student to share any key information they want staff to know. This is filled out on the student’s first visit to the school and shared with staff before the student has their first full day at school.
Page 2 of the EAL Pupil Profile tracks the student’s English proficiency band. The student is tested in all 4 skills two weeks after admission. There are also 4 sections that are discussed with the student during the two week check in; they share strengths, needs, what staff can do to help and what they can do to help themselves. It is reviewed termly, and the profile is updated.
Hemos creado el perfil del alumno EAL para compartir información clave con los profesores sobre nuestros alumnos recién llegados. Lo hemos creado porque queremos apoyar a los profesores y que este apoyo resulte en clases bien planeadas y adaptadas al nivel del nuevo alumno.
En la primera página, el perfil muestra los antecedentes del alumno, así como los de la familia por si se necesita contactar con los padres/cuidadores. También provee de una oportunidad para que el alumno comparta información clave que quieren que los profesores sepan. Se completa durante la primera visita al colegio y se comparte con los profesores antes del primer día de colegio.
En la segunda página, el perfil monitoriza el nivel de competencia en inglés. El alumno hace pruebas en las cuatro destrezas después de haber pasado dos semanas en el colegio. Una vez completadas dichas pruebas, hablamos con el alumno sobre sus aptitudes, sus necesidades, lo que los profesores pueden hacer para ayudarle y lo que él mismo puede hacer para ayudar. Se revisa cada trimestre y se actualiza el perfil.
